Alexander Warren Marcus is the Jacob & Hilda Blaustein Postdoctoral Associate in Ancient Judaism at Yale University. He holds a PhD in Religious Studies from Stanford University. His work focuses on Jewish communities of Late Antiquity, utilizing text-critical and rhetorical analyses to examine the Babylonian Talmud (~3rd–6th century CE) alongside contemporaneous literary sources and artifacts deriving from Sasanian Mesopotamia. His research encompasses the broader classical rabbinic corpus, the corpora of neighboring religious communities of the Roman and Persian empires, and early medieval sources that inherited and transmitted these traditions. He engages matters of oral/textual production and transmission, biblical hermeneutics and narrative expansion, law, ritual, folklore, and other issues in the academic study of religion.

Rachel Rose Colwell is an ethnomusicologist specializing in Tunisian Andalusi Art Music (ma’lūf) and listening practices. She received her doctorate in Ethnomusicology at the University of California, Berkeley and her B.A. in Anthropology and Musical Studies at Oberlin College. In her ethnographic work, she investigates the connections to geographic places and movements, emplaced sonic histories, and affective orientations perpetuated and challenged through contemporary Tunisian listening. During the 2019-2020 academic year she served as the Visiting Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology at Grinnell College, where she taught three courses of her own design and instructed an Arab music ensemble. She is also a forager, budding herbalist, incense crafter, and naturalist searching for new wild flavors and aromas, which she sells on her Etsy page. She harvests with care and ecological consideration and uses recycled materials whenever possible.
